For the first time ever Indian Greco-Roman wrestlers are making their presence felt in the UWW ranking charts.

Greco-Roman wrestlers Gurpreet, Sunil biggest gainers
No one will now tell them that the Indian Greco-Roman wrestlers are not up to the global standards. India’s Gurpreet won gold and Sunil Kumar won silver in Rome and that has catapulted them to top 10 in the UWW world rankings for the first time. In the 82kg weight category, Gurpreet debuts at number 10th in the world jumping 15 places from 25th.
The biggest gainer was Sunil Kumar in the 87kg category who has moved from 33rd position to 10th. Never ever two Indian Greco-Roman wrestlers together have made it to the top 10 of the world rankings.
The Greco-Roman form of wrestling is considered as poor cousin to more popular freestyle wrestling in India. The Greco wrestlers have very few success stories in comparison to what the Indian freestyle wrestlers have achieved at the global level. But things seem to be changing.
The Indian Greco-Roman wrestlers have impressed everyone with their performance at the 2020 first ranking series event in Rome and that has made their entry possible in the top 10 list of their respective categories.
