Asian Wrestling Championships : Vinesh Phogat eyeing world number 1 ranking as reigning world champ likely to miss out


The Asian Wrestling Championships in Delhi will be star studded affair, especially in 53kg category. After World Silver medallist Mayu Mukaida’s confirmation now world number 4 Pang Qiyanu of China has also confirmed her participation in the Delhi edition. 

Only top 4 players likely to skip the Asian championships will be world champion Yong Mi Pak of North Korea. This will give opportunity to the queen of Indian wrestling to create history by grabbing world number 1 ranking for the first time.


Race to Asian Title & World Rankings
Vinesh recently won the gold medal at the Rome Ranking Series event to move up to number 2 in the UWW World Rankings pushing Mukaida to number 3. 

The ranking table in the 53kg is headed by Pak YONG Mi with 60 points, Vinesh with 41 points is at second position in the rankings and Mukaida is at number 3 with 40 points. Pang Qiyanu of China with 37 points is at number 4th.


Vinesh moved one-point ahead of MUKAIDA and four points ahead of PANG Qianyu of China with her 4-0 shutout win over Luisa VALVERDE MELENDRES of Ecquador in the Matteo Pellicone Ranking Series finals. 
The Indian star positioned herself to take over the No. 1 spot with a potential 20-point gold-medal finish at the Asian Championships
